Housing at ABAC has grown greatly over the last several years, and even more this year, with occupancy posting an almost 20 percent increase over last year.
Chris Kinsey, Director of Housing Operations, has dedicated himself to increasing the number of students living on campus.
“We strive to have 100 percent of our housing capacity filled every year, and even if we don’t always meet that we still do everything we can to meet it the next year,” Kinsey said.
The housing administrators have many ways of encouraging students to stay on campus. One way is to offer rewards for referrals, so if a student already living on campus invites another student to live on campus then that student could receive money for the bookstore or other ABAC facilities.
Other awards and benefits are also offered to those who chose to live on campus. For example, any student who lives on campus for five semesters gets discounts.
One other benefit of staying on campus is 24-hour access to facilities such as the fitness room with a lot of new exercise equipment. ABAC also provides a new computer lab with all new computers that anyone staying on campus can use.
The housing managers strive to give as much freedom as possible to students living on campus. They even have what they call residence hall meetings, where a group of students who live on campus come together with the housing directors and help adapt the rules and regulations to make staying on campus more comfortable for everyone.
“I really love the dorms here on campus. They are so convenient, and I absolutely love having my own kitchen,” said Miss ABAC Kristen Ray about her experiences living on campus.
