The Fillies traveled to Macon on August 24, and
shut out the Wesleyan College Pioneers by a score
Freshman Jodie Corless scored all three goals
for the Fillies. Incredibly, all were unassisted. Two
came in the first half, and were within five minutes
of each other. The third goal came in the second half
that Corless fired in after a richochet off the crossbar.
Backup goalie Katie Martin had an outstanding
game. "She made some great saves during the game,
and I thought she played phenominally," said Coach
"We have some of the best assistant coaches
around. Dill Driscoll, Dusty Clark, and Lindsey
Partridge bring a lot of experince, excitement, and
passion to the team," said Balleneger.
Those coaches prove to be a great asset when it
comes to recruiting. The Fillies have landed a great
player in back to back years. Nikita Morris was the
breakout star last season, and Jodie Corless is the
new scoring sensation on campus, having knocked
in three goals in her first game.
The coaches are very excited for what her and
Nikita will do on the field together. Balleneger
has been putting in new formations this year that
he has not been able to use in years. "Both Nikita
and Jodie compliment each others skills so well on
the field. They're both from the same country and
play a similar style of ball. So it's exciting to watch
them work together. Also, watch out for Jasmine
Johnson, she has great speed and will help take the
pressure off of Nikita and Jodie."
Overall, Ballenger is happy with how his team
played. There was a level of excitment in his voice
during this interview. One can only assume that
comes from having great optimism for the season
ahead. So, make sure to come out and support your
Fillies this season. The first home game will be on
Sep. 3, against Andrew College.
